Since 2019 we occasionally do outcross breeding. After all, a worldwide appeal was made from Ireland to remedy inbreeding problems of the Red & White Irish Setter. This Red & White spotted form is the much older and original Irish Setter. Breeding a full reddish brown or mahogany cashew Irish Setter was more fashionable and the original Irish Setter was in danger of extinction.
By crossing a Red & White Irish Setter with a Red Irish Setter, red puppies with a white line on the head, often also a partly white muzzle and white chest are obtained. These pups also obtain a pedigree. In the next generation they are crossed with a Red & White Irish Setter and the offspring of this are all red & white spotted. You will wonder what sense does this make? The end result is a beautiful Red & White Irish Setter WITHOUT INBREEDING PROBLEMS !
